THE CALL OF ART: A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE ON ART AND FAITH
This message is aimed at a Christian audience to better prepare
us to be intelligent, critical participants as we interact with
the popular art forms of our day. (This lecture can be given
in one, two or three sessions.)
Part One: Why Art?
A discussion on why God created art and artistic expression.
Powerful Biblical examples of positive uses of art.
Part Two: The Call to Evaluate Art
Biblical arguments for why we, as Christians, are both qualified
and obligated to evaluate the art of our culture. Also, how do
we critique art?
Part Three: The Call to Endorse Art
A Biblical call for Christians and the Church to patronize the
arts within our culture, including a discussion on how our involvement
affects society, and how the arts positively affect the church.
THE CALL OF THE ARTIST
This address is geared specifically for Christians who are artists.
We will explore the Biblical mandate (both the blessing and the
responsibility) for Christians in the arts.
FOLLOWING GODS DREAM
People in the arts tend to be dreamers. We have dreams for our ministry,
for our drama teams and choirs, for our churches, for our personal
success. By delving into the story of the Bibles most famous
dreamer, we explore what it means to follow Gods dream.

what others say . . .
"Having worked with hundreds of world-class artists, I
contend that Sean and Catherine Gaffney are two of the most talented
people I have ever met. If you ever have the chance to see this
extraordinary husband-wife team, don't miss it!"
Patrick Kavanaugh, Executive Director, Christian Performing
Artists Fellowship, D.C.
"Gaffney's teaching was inspiring and clear, challenging
the artist and lay person to celebrate God's purposes and presence
in the Arts."
Scott Nolte, Producing Artistic Director, Taproot Theatre,
Seattle
"There are some voices within the Church that would have
you believe art is to be approached with fear and suspicion. Sean
Gaffney inspires me to approach art with an eagerness to recognize
God's truth, to apprehend His beauty, and to grow stronger in discernment.
He restores to his listeners a Scriptural mandate to 'test all things
and hold on to what is good.'"
Jeffrey Overstreet, film critic for ChristianityToday.com
and promontoryartists.org
